3-7 A study on the survey of shyness and factors related for college students.
This study was focused on the survey of shyness, the difference of shyness by theinves- tigations of sex, birth order and self-consciousness as well as the influence of shyness to individual self-esteem and loneliness. The subjects of the investigative study were 233 university students and the related study were 14 university students. Stanford Shyness Survey. Self-consciousness scale, shyness, self-esteem scale and loneliness scale were administered to this study. The findings were as follows:
1. There were 60.6 % students who considered themselves shy. What they felt the most likely situations to be shy were at the time when they became the public focus person as well as talked to the opposite sex, strangers or authority.
2. There was no significant difference for the degree of shyness between males and females.
3. There was no significant difference for the degree of shyness among the different birth order of students.
4. There was no significant difference for the degree of shyness between self-consciousness of students.
5.Sex, brith order and self-consciousness couldn’t predict individual shyness effectively.
6.The shyer students were, the lower self-esteem students were.
7.The shyer students were, The more lonely students felt.
